The Rundown: Oliver tries to navigate the cartoon world while his mother tries something desperate to find him.

Oliver is still trying to navigate the cartoon world and keep out of sight of the forces of the First. Unfortunately, a murder of crows descends on Oliver and his new friends and the boy is forced to hide in a local forest where he meets a tribe of small creatures with a connection to magic. A connection he might be able to use to communicate with his mother. Unfortunately, the forces of the First are still on his trail.
At the same time, Oliver’s mother and grandfather try to determine what happened to the boy after he manifested his powers and Peggy comes up with a plan to find her son. A dangerous plan that her cartoon father is against after the pair have some heartfelt words. Words that will embolden Peggy to do anything to save her son.
The Story: Fleecs continues to craft an intense, compelling and thoroughly entertaining story in this issue. The story is filled with suspense and I love the tonal contrasts between Oliver and Peggy’s stories. The story continues to create a great balance between the cartoon absurdity and the high stakes for Oliver. There is a wonderful buildup of tension throughout the conversation between Peggy and her father and the story ends on a great cliffhanger that immediately makes me excited for the next issue.
The Art: Wachter delivers some fantastic art throughout the issue. I love the visual styles at play and the representation of “reality” in contrast to the cartoon world.
